Regional Bio-LNG: BV Malaysia, Straits Bio-LNG sign biomethane MOU

Bureau Veritas Malaysia (BV Malaysia) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Singapore-based Straits Bio-LNG Pte Ltd to establish a strategic alliance aimed at producing ISCC EU-certified sustainable biomethane.
The partnership is intended to support the energy sector’s transition toward lower-carbon solutions by developing a sustainable biomethane liquefaction facility that meets stringent environmental protection and regulatory compliance standards.
Under the agreement, BV Malaysia and Straits Bio-LNG will work together to establish a comprehensive framework to ensure compliance with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) EU scheme across Straits Bio-LNG’s supply chain. The collaboration will also focus on advancing sustainability practices in line with evolving regulatory requirements and promoting industry-leading certification benchmarks to enhance market credibility and trust.
The MOU signing was witnessed by BV Malaysia Country Chief Executive Dato’ Mohd Nizam Abdulmalik and Straits Bio-LNG Chief Executive Officer Tan Soo Koong.

BV Malaysia, the local arm of global testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) group Bureau Veritas, provides services covering quality, health, safety, and sustainability across sectors including oil and gas, marine, construction, and consumer products. The company plays a key role in helping businesses ensure regulatory compliance, manage operational risks, and improve performance.
Straits Bio-LNG, established in 2024, is a biofuel supplier focused on producing and supplying liquefied biomethane, or bio-LNG, to support decarbonization in the shipping industry. The company uses organic waste, including palm oil mill effluent (POME), as feedstock, positioning bio-LNG as a cost-competitive alternative fuel for maritime applications.
The partnership reflects growing industry efforts to develop credible, certified pathways toward a low-carbon energy future, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping.
