French engineering firm Technip Energies has been awarded a detailed engineering contract for Thailand’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, marking a key milestone in the country’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector.
The contract, awarded by Thoresen Jutal Offshore Engineering Heavy Industries Limited, relates to PTTEP’s Arthit CCS facilities project in the Gulf of Thailand. PTTEP, Thailand’s national upstream oil and gas company, is leading the project, which is intended to serve as a pilot to build domestic CCS expertise and support wider deployment of the technology.

The Arthit CCS project will utilise existing infrastructure at the Arthit gas field, with additional facilities to be constructed and installed as required. Once fully operational, the project is expected to have a carbon dioxide storage capacity of up to one million tonnes per year. The development aligns with Thailand’s government policy on emissions reduction and is recognised under the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution Action Plan on Mitigation for 2021–2030.
Under the latest award, Technip Energies will carry out detailed engineering for new carbon capture processing units and CO₂ injection facilities, as well as brownfield modifications to the existing Arthit Central Processing Platform. The company previously completed the pre-front-end engineering design (Pre-FEED) and front-end engineering design (FEED) phases for the project between 2022 and 2023.
