Regional Data Center: Petrovietnam, Nebula Energy study LNG-powered AI data center in Vietnam

Vietnam's Petrovietnam, its gas subsidiary PV GAS, and Nebula Energy have signed a cooperation agreement to study investment opportunities for an integrated liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered data center in the Vung Ang Economic Zone in Ha Tinh province.

The proposed project would integrate a data center with LNG infrastructure at Vung Ang, with the partners assessing the feasibility of using cold energy generated during LNG regasification to cool the facility.

The companies said the concept is intended to improve energy efficiency, extend the LNG value chain and support sustainable development by combining energy infrastructure with digital technology.

Under the agreement, PV GAS, which is developing the North Central LNG Terminal at Vung Ang, will lead the assessment of the LNG infrastructure required for the project. Nebula Energy will contribute its international expertise in integrated energy projects and AI data center development.

The partners said the initiative is aimed at supporting the development of an energy and technology ecosystem in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, which Vietnam is seeking to develop as a regional hub for industry, energy and digital infrastructure.

The agreement marks the latest effort by energy companies in Southeast Asia to explore synergies between LNG infrastructure and the rapidly growing demand for AI and cloud computing capacity, where access to reliable power and efficient cooling systems has become increasingly important for large-scale data centers.
