Regional LNG: China restricts construction of LNG terminals: Report
Monday, August 8 2005 - 01:48 AM WIB
China's government will allow only one liquefied natural gas import terminal to be built in each of its provinces to prevent the duplication of large infrastructure projects in the energy sector, the South China Morning Post reports.
Citing an informed source, the paper said National Development & Reform Commission Vice Minister Zhang Guobao told petroleum executives that only Guangdong would be allowed a second LNG terminal for the time being. Zhang met with the executives on June 9 in Qingdao, it said.
The government order has yet to be published, the report said.
But the policy means 18 proposed and continuing projects, including those planned by China National Offshore Oil Corp., PetroChina Co. (PTR) and China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (SNP) will be shelved, the report said.(*)
