Monday, March 22 2004 - 11:19 PM WIB

China National Offshore Oil Corp. and the Tianjin Municipal Government signed a contract Sunday to build a liquefied natural gas terminal project, a CNOOC official was quoted by Dow Jones Monday.

The project, to be located in Tianjin city, 100 kilometers south of Beijing, will include a 3 million metric-tons-a-year LNG receiving terminal and some offsite facilities, he said.

This will be the fourth LNG project the company would have built by 2010, he added

The CNOOC official declined to comment on the source of LNG imports for the Tianjin project.

The CNOOC official said the company also plans to build an LNG terminal in Dalian City, adding that discussions with the Dalian government are underway.

CNOOC will also complete by the end of this year a feasibility study on the construction of an LNG terminal in Shanghai city in eastern China.

Currently, CNOOC is building its first, which is also China's first, LNG project in Guangdong province, southern China.(*)
