World?s largest importer of liquefied natural gas Korea Gas Corp (KOGAS) said Monday both Australia's Gorgon and North West Shelf LNG projects have been shortlisted to negotiate for a long-term liquefied natural gas supply contract, Dow Jones reported.

In August, KOGAS sent out invitations for bids for its first long-term contract. The state-run natural gas provider aims to secure more than 5 million metric tons a year of LNG under a 20-year contract starting 2008.

The contract will replace an accord with Indonesia's PT Arun NGL that ends in November 2007.

KOGAS has selected five bidders including Royal Dutch/Shell Group's Malaysian venture, BP Plc's Tangguh project in Indonesia and Woodside Petroleum Ltd.-operated North West Shelf venture in Australia.

The last time KOGAS sent out invitations for long-term contract bids was in the 1990s, according to Dow Jones. (*)
