Thursday, August 28 2003 - 01:21 PM WIB

Malaysia LNG Tiga has sent notice to gas buyers in Japan and South Korea of a force mejeure on exports following a fire earlier this month at its plant in Bintulu, a source at majority owner Petronas said on Thursday.

"We have issued letters to our MLNG buyers informing them of a force majeure (on LNG exports)," the source was quoted by Reuter as saying.

Malaysia LNG Tiga was set up to run the seventh and eighth production trains of the LNG complex at Bintulu in Malaysia's Sarawak region.

The fire affected the seventh train. An eighth train is due to start production in coming months.

"Basically, the plant is not producing anything at the moment. But, as for now, the eighth train is still scheduled to come on in October."

Other stakeholders in the plant include Royal Dutch/Shell and Japan's Nippon Oil. (*)
