Regional LNG: Mexico?s Costa Azul LNG terminal project 65% complete: Report

Construction of San Diego-based Sempra Energy?s Energia Costa Azul LNG terminal in Mexico is 65% complete, Sempra chairman and CEO Donald Felsinger said in a webcast as reported by Bnamericas.com on Friday.
The US$875-million, 1Bcf/d project is 25km north of Ensenada port in Baja California state and will supply processed gas to power plants and industry, according to the company?s website.
The terminal will be operational in 2008, Felsinger said.
Regarding a project expansion, the executive said Sempra ?continues to hold discussions with interested parties on the expansion capacity.?
The expansion would increase capacity to 2.5Bcf/d.
On Oct. 12, 2004, Sempra announced a supply agreement with BP and its Tangguh LNG partners for the supply of 3.7 million tons of LNG per year, (500 MMcf/day) from Indonesia to Energia Costa Azul. (*)
