Singapore electricity firm PowerGas Limited, a member of Singapore Power Group, has selected Gaz de France as its joint partner for the proposed development of Singapore?s first LNG terminal.

The company said in a release on Monday that Gaz de France will hold a minority interest in the joint venture project.

In April, PowerGas signed a LNG Terminal Agreement with the Energy Market Authority for the proposed development of the Singapore LNG terminal. PowerGas has begun basic design and front end engineering work, and the preparation of tender specifications for the construction of the terminal.

The proposed terminal will initially be designed with a capacity of three million tonnes a year. The complex includes a jetty, unloading facilities, storage tanks, a regasification plant and associated civil and utilities infrastructure, the company said.

In April 2008, UK firm BG Group Plc won an exlusive 20-year contract to supply LNG for the terminal, also marking a key step in that company's quest for a strong position in the Pacific basin.(alex)
