Regional LNG: Taiwan's CPC to build LNG terminal in Taichung

Saturday, August 2 2003 - 11:14 AM WIB

Taiwan's state-run Chinese Petroleum Corp (CPC) will build a liquefied natural gas terminal in Taichung harbour, central Taiwan, AFP reported Saturday.

The LNG terminal will handle delivery for state-own Taiwan Power Co's Tatan power plant on a 25-year contract scheduled to start in 2008.

In a July auction, CPC won the NT$298.2 billion (US$8.6 billion) contract to supply natural gas imported from Qatar to Taiwan Power.

While the CPC spokesman declined to disclose the costs for the Taichung terminal, the Economic Daily News said Friday the investment would total NT$20 billion.

The spokesman said his company would hold an open tender for the construction contract for the terminal. (*)
