The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources expects to complete the drafting of the governmental regulation on the Implementing Body next month, a senior official of the ministry said Thursday.

Under the new oil and gas law, the agency will regulate and manage the country?s oil and gas upstream sector, a role which is currently being performed by state oil and gas company Pertamina.

?After completing the governmental regulation on the Implementing Body, we shall also complete the drafting of the governmental regulations on the oil and gas upstream sector, the downstream sector and the Regulating Body,? director general of oil and gas Rachmat Sudibyo told Petromindo.Com.

The Regulating Body will take over Pertamina?s role in regulating and managing the country?s oil and gas downstream sector under the new oil and gas law.

Rachmat also said that the ministry was planning to draft another governmental regulation which focuses on gas affairs, but it is still seeking opinions from Pertamina and other industry players whether such a regulation was necessary.

When asked for comments about the plan, Pertamina?s downstream director Muchsin Bahar said he was not opposed to the idea. (Godang)
