Triharyo said that the company would also be ready to find the financial sources for the construction of the Tuban refinery project so that the local content of the project could be increased.

According to him, involving a local company would significantly reduce the cost thanks to the use of local component and local workers. He cited that the appointment of PT Rekayasa Industri in the construction of the newly operated refinery plant in the Balongan refinery complex could save construction costs amounting to about US$24 million.

“Our offering bid for the Balongan project was about US$24 million lower than those offered by foreign construction companies,” he said, adding that the Balongan project was one of the many high technology projects that had been successfully handled by PT Rekayasa Industri.

Earlier reports said that Pertamina and Chinese company Shanghai Petroechemical Co (Sinopec) had reached an initial agreement to cooperate in the construction of the Tuban refinery plant.

The cost for the construction of the plant, which would have a capacity to process crude oil of between 150,000 and 200,000 barrels per day, was estimated to reach US$1.6 billion. (*)
