Release: Antam monthly exploration report for August 2008

Antam?s exploration activities focused primarily on nickel, gold and bauxite. However, inline with coal requirement for ferronickel smelters and plan to use coal fired power plant at Pomalaa, Antam commenced initial coal exploration.
Total exploration cost on above commodities on August 2008 amounted to Rp11.9 billion (preliminary figures).
NICKEL EXPLORATION
Antam conducted nickel exploration at Buli and Obi Island of Halmahera and Southeast Sulawesi.
Antam conducted nickel exploration at Buli of Halmahera specifically Pakal, Tanjung Buli, A Block and P4P5 and P6P7 using 25 m, 50 m, 100 m and 200 m drilling space. Other activities were spot and drilling measurement, topography measurement, core drilling description, core drilling samples, preparation and analysis. Topography measurement activities continued at West Sangaji. Nickel exploration at Obi Island specifically at Kawasi and Mala-Mala included logging, samples, test pitting, preparations, 12.5 m, 25 m and 50 m drilling space and topography measurement.
Antam conducted logging core, core sampling, 25 m of drilling space, track and spot measurement and preparation at Tapunopaka of Southeast Sulawesi, while at Baunaga, Pandua and Lalindu focused on logging core, core sampling, track and drilling spot measurement ,topography measurement, 100 m and 200 m drilling space, preparations and analysis. Antam also conducted Semi Detail Geological Mapping (SDGM), drilling data density, georadar measurement and topography measurement.
Total nickel exploration cost reached Rp6.9 billion.
GOLD EXPLORATION
Antam conducted gold exploration at Pongkor and Papandayan - Garut of West Java, Batangasai of Jambi, Mao Batuisi and Karosa of West Sulawesi and North Tapanuli of North Sumatera.
Exploration activities at Pongkor included Detail Geological Mapping (DGM), Jogging core, samples including rock, core and XRD, drilling, track measurement, geotech analysis, structure mapping and evaluation. Antam also conducted exploration activities at Papandayan - Garut, included DGM, opening, logging core, rock samples and drilling.
At Batangasai of Jambi, exploration focused on DGM, SDGM, opening, hand auger, logging core, drilling, layer and drilling spot measurement, samples of soil, core, rock, XRD, Fi and petro / mineragraphy, opening detailing, structure detailing and track measurement.
At Mao Batuisi and Karosa of West Sulawesi, Antam conducted Regional Geological Mapping (RGM), DGM, opening, samples of rock and soil, grid measurement, IP geophysics and magnetic geophysics.
At North Tapanuli, Antam conducted RGM and samples of stream sediment, rock and petro/mineragraphy.
Total gold exploration cost reached Rp1.5 billion.
BAUXITE EXPLORATION
Antam conducted bauxite exploration at Mempawah, Landak, Munggu Pasir and Tayan of West Kalimantan.
Exploration activities at Mempawah and Landak included 50 m grid measurement, topography measurement, test pitting, samples and preparation.
Antam conducted grid/ polygon measurement, topography measurement, test pitting, samples and preparation at Munggu Pasir.
At Tayan, Antam conducted test pitting, samples and preparations.
Total bauxite exploration cost reached Rp1.5 billion.
COAL EXPLORATION
Antam conducted initial coal exploration at Bangko, Merangin-Jambi.
Exploration activities included SDGM, RGM, opening, rock and core samples, drilling, logging, track measurement and trial drilling activities. Antam indicated no significant coal reserves and resources so far.
Total coal exploration reached Rp2 billion. (end of release)
