Release: Cooper Energy: Kurnia-1 logging oil and gas shows section

Tuesday, September 11 2007 - 05:12 AM WIB

(11 September 2007)--Further to ASX release COE310807a regarding the oil and gas shows in Kurnia-1 in the South Madura PSC in Indonesia, following the decision to change the drilling bit at 2,141 metres, we have decided to commence logging of the drilled section between 1,237 metres (20” casing shoe) and 2,141 metres.

The wireline logs are planned to evaluate the oil and gas shows that were encountered at 1,260-1,265 metres; 1,295-1,301 metres and 1,783-1,791 metres.

To assist investors to understand the process of evaluation, the wireline logs are expected to provide information on the porosity and the rock type of the formations and if hydrocarbons are present in measurable quantities in those formations. If hydrocarbons are present then the wireline logs will provide information on the hydrocarbon saturation of the formations and the wireline formation sampler will provide information on the type of hydrocarbons and the pressure of those hydrocarbons in the formations. The acquired data will provide information to assist in determining the future potential commerciality of the formations after the well has been drilled.

Note that if hydrocarbons are present in measurable quantities, the wireline logs and wireline formation sampler will provide limited information on the potential productivity of the formations but will not provide any information on the volume of hydrocarbons that may be recoverable from the formations. Cased hole production tests would be required to provide more accurate information on the productivity of the formations and later geoscience and engineering studies will be required to estimate the potential hydrocarbon recovery from the formations. Cased hole production tests may be run after the well has reached its total depth, depending on the drilling results of the Kujung primary oil objective.

It is expected that logging of this section will be complete in a few days after which we will plan to drill ahead to 2,500 metres, which is the 13-3/8”casing point. (end of release)
