Saturday, March 26 2005 - 01:29 AM WIB
EMOI's response team has contained the releases from the condensate pipeline and continue to implement environmental remediation measures to respond to the safety of the community and its operations near the facilities. EMOI response efforts implemented immediately following the occurrence of this incident allowed EMOI to determine that risk to nearby communities was minimal. As a precaution, a small number of families living nearby the affected facility were requested by EMOI to relocate to temporary accommodations provided by EMOI.
To further demonstrate its commitment to the well being of the community, EMOI allowed other concerned villagers to have access to its temporary accommodations.
EMOI is now in the process of winding down use of its temporary accommodations and has requested the majority of concerned citizens to return to their homes. The exception will be the small number of families who were originally requested by EMOI to move to temporary accommodations until response measures are sufficiently completed.
EMOI response team and experts remain on site to continue all the necessary works and make sure there will be no further impact to the environment and community.
After the incident, EMOI opened its clinic facilities at Point A to assist villagers with their ailments. However, none of these ailments were related to the incident. Following treatment, all were released by medical staff.
EMOI also has two community mission clinics and they remain open to the public.
EMOI continues to work with local authorities to maintain coordination of its response activities. EMOI expresses its appreciation to the local authorities for their assistance in responding to this incident.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
