RELEASE: Manpower authorities to mediate KPC dispute
Wednesday, September 3 2003 - 03:44 PM WIB
(Sangatta ?3 September 2003)The negotiation between the Shareholder?s representative and the unions which took place yesterday (2 September) did not reach an agreement, even though the shareholders (Rio Tinto and BP) had been willing to make a ?goodwill? payment at that time which was equivalent to more than one year?s base salary for the average operator at the mine site. As already mentioned this is a non-normative payment.
In accordance with Article 141 (2) of Law No 13/2003, the Manpower Authorities of East Kutai are now required to mediate this dispute. KPC awaits notification of the time and date for this process to commence.
The Company looks forward to a positive outcome from mediation and an end to the ongoing industrial action.
KPC management has again urged the employees to return to work and allow the lawful processes of mediation to continue.
