Release: Newmont announces executive appointments

(DENVER, Oct. 13)-- Newmont Mining Corporation today announced the appointment of Thomas Enos as Senior Vice President, Operations, reporting to Wayne W. Murdy, Chairman and CEO.

Enos has nearly 35 years of mining operations experience and has held key Newmont operating positions in Nevada and Indonesia.

In his new role, Enos will be responsible for overseeing the operational performance and efficiency of Newmont's mining assets worldwide.

The Company also announced the appointment of Bruce Hansen to Senior Vice President, Operations Services and Development, also reporting to Murdy.

Hansen brings to the position a unique combination of mining operations experience and financial expertise gained in his role as the Company's former CFO. Hansen's new responsibilities cover all areas of operational support, including engineering and construction, technical services, supply chain management and information technology.

As part of the Company's continuing efforts to address input commodity price pressures, Newmont announced the appointment of Robert Bush as Senior Vice President, Energy Solutions, also reporting to Murdy. In his new role, Bush will focus on implementing best practices and policies in global energy management, procurement and conservation. Bush will also continue to oversee the development of a 203-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Nevada.

Other organizational changes announced include the promotion of Brant Hinze to Vice President, North American Operations. Hinze replaces Richard Perry who recently resigned to pursue other opportunities. The Company also announced the promotion of William Zisch to Vice President, African Operations. Hinze and Zisch will report to Enos.

In Jakarta, Indonesia, the Company announced the appointment of a senior Indonesian mining executive, Noke Kiroyan to President Director, Newmont Pacific Nusantara, the Company's operational support and services unit in Indonesia. Kiroyan will report to Robert Gallagher, Vice President Indonesian Operations.(end of release)
