Release: PT Inco assessing impact of fire at electric furnace No. 2

Jakarta, May 24, 2006 ? PT International Nickel Indonesia Tbk (?PT Inco?) is currently assessing the impact of a transformer fire that occurred yesterday at one of its four electric furnaces at its Sorowako operations.

There were no injuries from the fire, which occurred in the transformer room for electric furnace No. 2. Several members of the firefighting crew were sent to the hospital for observation but were released shortly afterwards.

An accident investigation team and a business recovery team are currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of damage, cost of repair, time required for repair, and impact on PT Inco production. PT Inco is also assessing the impact on customer deliveries as a result of the fire. (end of release)
