Release: Straits Asia Resources Ltd achieves record coal sales for 2006

(3 January 2006) - The Directors of Straits Asia Resources Limited are pleased to announce record full year coal sales of 3.53 million tonnes from its coal operations in Indonesia.

Sales reach 3.53 million tonnes a 21% increase over 2005 sales of 2.91 million tonnes

Commenting on the performance. Straits Asia Chief Executive Officer David Toms said ?This is another strong result from our coal marketing and production divisions after significant sales increases in 2004 and 2005.?

The coal operations sold 1.04 million tonnes in the quarter ended 31 December 2006, an increase of 18% over the same period in 2005. Speaking further Mr Toms said ?This puts Straits Asia in a great position to achieve further production and sales growth in 2007 during a period of robust demand and pricing for our products. This record is a reflection of the hard work and efforts of all employees and contractors involved in delivering another record year of production and sales for shareholders.? (end of release)
