A set of 2x315 MW Rembang coal-fired power plants is expected to start commercial operation in September after the contractors, Zeland Holding Bhd and PT Priamanaya Djan International, completed its construction.

?The power plant unit-I will start commissioning next month, followed by commercial operation in September, and the second unit will follow in October? the Rembang power plant manager Slamet Riyanto deliberated on Tuesday, adding that both units will be in full operation in 2012.

The power plant set is built on a land plot area of 55 hectares in size, at a total cost of Rp 6 trillion (1US$ = Rp 8,530)

The power plant would consume 1.9 million tonnes (MTPA) of low CV coal per annum, a requirement that will be fulfilled by PT Arutmin Indonesia and PT Titan Mining, each having been contracted to supply 950,000 tonnes of coal annually for the power plants.

The Rembang power plant is part of the government?s 10,000-MW power plant development crash program. (*)
