Indonesia’s renewable energy share in the national energy mix rose to 15.75% in 2025, up 1.1 percentage points from 2024, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) said on Thursday.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the increase lifted the renewable share from 14.65% in 2024.
“In 2024, our renewable energy share stood at 14.65%, and it increased by 1.1 percentage points to 15.75% in 2025,” Bahlil said during a press conference on Thursday (Jan. 8).
Bahlil also said total installed renewable power generation capacity reached 15,630 megawatts (MW) in 2025, up about 530 MW, or 3.5%, from around 15.1 gigawatts (GW) in 2024, based on the ministry’s performance report.
Total installed power generation capacity across all energy sources rose by 6.8% to 107.51 GW in 2025 from 100.65 GW a year earlier. As a result, the share of renewables in the electricity generation mix edged down to 14.5% in 2025 from 15.1% in 2024, despite the increase in installed renewable capacity.

Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the MEMR, Eniya Listiyani, said she had earlier been optimistic that the renewable energy share would reach 16% in 2025. However, several projects were delayed, including the 510 MW Batang Toru hydropower plant, which was initially scheduled to begin commercial operations by the end of 2025 but has now been postponed to October 2026.
Looking ahead, Eniya said she hopes the renewable energy share will rise to 17% in 2026.
“I want it to increase, ideally by up to two percentage points, because the target in the National Electricity Plan (RUKN) is also 17%,” she said.
In terms of investment, the ministry recorded renewable energy and energy conservation investment of $2.4 billion in 2025, up from $1.8 billion in 2024.
