Renewables-based power plants to be built in remote regions

A combined 180 MW of renewables-based power plants will be developed in remote regions in the eastern part of Indonesia in a bid to increase local power supply.

William Sabandar, Head of the Renewable Energy Acceleration Team at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, was quoted by bisnis.com as saying that total investment in the renewable energy power plants is estimated at between Rp 30 trillion and Rp 40 trillion.

He said that the planned renewable energy power plants, which will be part of the 35,000 MW power plant projects, will be developed in remote regions in Papua, West Papua, North Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Nusa Tenggara. invest

He said that about 60 percent of the projects are expected to be developed by private investors, with the remainder by state-owned power firm PT PLN.

William said that the government is seeking ways to increase the internal rate of return of the renewable energy projects to make it attractive for the investors. (*)
