Starting on March 11, a team of researchers from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is carrying out seismic survey equipment trial on the Sunda Strait using the Geomarin III research vessel, according to Ministry's website released on Tuesday.

The researchers are from the Center for Marine Geological Research and Development (P3GL), a body under the supervision of Ministry?s Research and Development Unit.

The equipments to be tested include seismic multi channels, marine gravity meter, navigation, single beam bathymetry, sampling gravity corer and multi corer, the team said in a statement. The 61.7 meter vessel started the trial in Cirebon port on March 11 to head for the Merak port in Banten before sailing to the sea for three days.

The trial is part of the preparation by the team before conducting a marine geological mapping in the eastern part of the country. The mapping aims to help enhance data on hydro carbon potentials.
