Residents have raised a blockade at a road linking to the coal mining area owned by PT Adaro Indonesia at Bingkai village in the Tanta district, South Kalimantan for allegedly blocking a river near their residential area.
The villagers said that since PT Adaro built a water gate in the river, their residential areas were often flooded especially during a rainy season. They said that the flooding caused by the construction of the water gate had also caused a damage to their rice fields.
The residents enforced the blockade on Wednesday morning but ended their action later in the afternoon after the management of the company promised to listen to their complaints.
Representatives of the company promised to cross check the villagers? complaints. They said that they would settle the problem only after they completed the cross-check. (*)
