Indonesia-listed coal miner PT Resources Alam Indonesia Tbk unveiled plan to enter Japan market with the first coal shipment slated to be made in the second or third quarter of this year.
Head of Investor Relations of Resources Alam Eric Tirtana told Petromindo.com that the company planned to produce up to 6 million tons of coal this year from its subsidiary PT Bara Insani Perkasa in East Kalimantan.
"We expect to produce six million tons this year and will start exporting coal to Japan in the second or third quarter this year," Eric said without elaborating on the expected amount of the export.
Last year, the company exported 90 percent of its coal production. Of the total export 70 percent went to China, 20 percent to Korea, 6 percent to India, and 4 percent to other countries. 10 percent of the production was for domestic market. Eric said the company would increase its allocation for domestic market to 20 percent from this year's production
