Resteel Industry begins construction of steel plant

PT Resteel Industry Indonesia, a joint venture between China?s Shanxi Haixin Iron and Steel Group and Indonesia?s Trinusa Group, started on Friday the construction of its US$500 million still plant in Batam, Riau Islands Province, with a ground-breaking attended by Minister of Industry MS Hidayat.
Investor Daily quoted Hidayat as saying that the 100,000 tons per year-capacity plant would produce super low carbon nickel titanium special steel.
He said that the government?s policy to ban the export of mineral ore products has started to bear fruits as investors begin investing the downstream industry in the country such as in steel manufacturing.
Hidayat added that Resteel also plans to build another steel plant with an annual capacity of 80,000 tons in Tuju Una-Una, Central Sulawesi. (*)
