Coal mining company PT Reswara Minergi Hartama, a subsidiary of IDX-listed integrated coal mining firm PT ABM Investama Tbk, is considering to develop a coal upgrading facility to increase the calorific value of its low rank coal as part of a long-term strategy to increase sales.
Hadi Setiadi, Head of Marketing at Reswara Group, told Petromindo.com on Wednesday that the company is currently at the stage of studying the coal upgrading plan, with the help of a consultant, to seek for the most commercially feasible technology.
Hadi said that Reswara wants to upgrade the CV of its coal from 3,400 kcal/kg (GAR) to 4,200 kcal/kg (GAR), which is seen as the most generally accepted coal CV in the market currently.
Amid the lingering weak global coal market, upgrading the coal CV is also seen as an alternative strategy to increase sales volume, Hadi said.
Reswara owns two coal subsidiaries namely PT Tunas Inti Abadi (in South Kalimantan) and PT Media Djaya Bersama/MDB (in Aceh). MDB owns two mining permit holders namely PT Mifa Bersaudara and PT Bara Energi Lestari. Reswara has a combined installed production capacity of 9 million tons per year.
