Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan signed on Friday a MoU with visiting Bangladesh Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Nasrul Hamid on the supply of LNG from Indonesia to the latter country.

The ministry said in a statement that under the plan, Bangladesh through Petrobangla will import LNG from Indonesia?s state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina or other producers. The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will facilitate talks with the Indonesian LNG producers.

Pertamina will also be given opportunities to develop LNG receiving facility as well as other LNG infrastructure facilities in Bangladesh.

Hamid said that the planned LNG import from Indonesia comes amid widening gas deficit in his country, estimated at around 1 million tons in 2018, and projected to increase to around 11 million tons in 2030.
