Tuesday, October 7 2003 - 03:53 AM WIB
The contract was signed by state owned electricity company PT PLN and Chinese firm CMEC in Nusa Dua, Bali during the ASEAN Plus 3 Summit.
Under the contract, PLN will obtain a portion of the US$400 million loan to be given by China to Indonesia.
However, thus far, the local papers have given conflicting reports regarding the portion of loan to be accepted by PLN.
Kompas reported on Tuesday that the firm would accept $182 million for the development of the Labuan Angin power plant, while Bisnis Indonesia said on Monday that the firm would get $100 million, including $20 million for the Labuan Angin project and $80 million for the Parit Baru power plant in South Kalimantan.
PLN officials are not available on Tuesday to clarify the matter. (*)
