RI exports 80% of coal output

Indonesia, the world?s largest exporter of thermal coal, exported around 224 million tons of coal during the first eight months of this year, or about 80 percent of the total production of 280 million tons in the January-August period, said Director General of Minerals and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources R. Sukhyar.

He was quoted by Investor Daily as saying Monday that about 80 percent of the output was produced by coal miners holding the coal mining contract of work (PKP2B), while the remainder produced by miners holding the IUP mining business permit.

He estimated that production this year to reach around 400 million tons, of which 90 million tons to be used at home, while the rest for export. (*)
