Saturday, February 15 2003 - 01:46 AM WIB

LNG Board which is chaired by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and whose members consist of director general of oil and gas, chairman of upstream oil and gas authority BP Migas and president of state oil and gas company Pertamina had been in effect although ministerial decree as legal basis of its formation had not been issued.

?De facto, the board had held meetings and making decisions,? said Pertamina president Baihaki Hakim.

According to Baihaki, the board is tasked to formulate marketing strategy for Indonesian LNG and to avoid head-to-head competition among Indonesian LNG producers.

Indonesia is currently the world?s top LNG exporters with Japan, South Korea and Taiwan as costumers. China is slated to be the next costumer starting 2007. Indonesia currently has two LNG centers, Arun in Aceh and Bontang in Eeast Kalimantan. Another LNG center, BP-operated Tangguh is expected to come onstream 2007, while Donggi, which is operated by Pertamina is slated to commence production 2010. (alex/godang)
