Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan said on Monday that the government is considering a possibility of importing LNG from Iran.

He said that the possibility of the LNG import follows a recent visit by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to Iran last week.

?When I accompanied the President to Iran, I saw the LNG price in Iran is cheap, that?s why I was asked by the President to explore the possibility of buying LNG from Iran to be brought to Indonesia,? Ignasius told an oil and gas discussion forum, but did not provide further details.

At a press conference in Tehran last week, Jokowi said that Indonesia plans to import liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran in the near future to help meet growing domestic demand. Jokowi said that the two parties agreed on purchase of over 500,000 tons of LPG from Iran.
