The Indonenesian ministry of energy and mineral resources will cooperate with Norway to develop micro-hydro power plants in remote areas, such as in Papua.
Norway generate about 99 percent of its power supply from hydro power plants, so that the country can allocate almost all of its income from oil and gas for development of its public welfare and for saving.
?We?ll utilize the micro-hydro technology in remote areas, such as Papua, which are rich in river resources. Our cooperation will cover finance, technology, consultation and operation of the micro-hydro,? Rudi Rubiandini, Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Rersources, told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Thursday.
Rudi said that Norway had utilized the micro-hydro power plants since 120 years ago. Their generation capacities are only below one megawatt (MW).
?The bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Norway had been followed up with meetings of businessmen of Indonesia and Norway to discuss about the micro-hydro,? he said.
Present during the meeting are representatives from INPOW (Norwegian Renewable Energy Partners) which has a long experience and expertise in hydro power plant, and Ivar Eng Multiconsult, which has experiences in financing the hybrid hydro-solar power plants,? said Rudi.
Another businessmen?s meeting has also discussed about cooperation in developing mini liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and gas-fired power plants. Present in this meeting are representatives from state gas distributor PT PGN, private energy company Medco, state utility PT PLN, and representatives of several companies from Norway, including Geir L. Kjersem LMG Marin, which is experienced in mini LNG, gas-fired power plants, and FPSO.
