RI, PNG push for cooperation in energy sector

A number of MoUs were inked between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea on various economic cooperation, notably in energy sector, following a bilateral meeting between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Prime Minister Peter Charles Paire O`Neil in Jakarta.

According to statement from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry the preliminary agreement will pave the way for further and more specified cooperation.

In the oil and gas upstream sector for instance, leniency in permit process when it comes to conducting survey within the border areas ? including, if necessary, the granting of permits for Trespassing Seismic Survey activities, and exchanges in surface/sub-surface data and a more intensified joint studies.

In the renewable energy sector, the agreement will allow the establishment of the so-called Joint Partnership Development Cross-Border Investment which is tasked among others to conduct studies on renewable energy potentials in border areas.
