RI's largest alumina smelter begins operation

A soft opening for an alumina smelter owned by PT Well Harvest Winning (WHW) in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, was held on Saturday, marking its maiden operation.
Antara Kalbar reported that a grand launching is scheduled in the near future to be led by President Joko Widodo.
The 1 million tons per annum-capacity smelter is developed by PT Well Harvest Winning Alumina Refinery, a joint venture between Indonesia?s Harita Group through PT Harita Prima Abadi Mineral (25 percent) and China?s Hongqiao Group. The US$1 billion smelter was initially targeted to start operation in October of last year. (*)
