The Indonesian government plans to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) over anti-dumping duty imposed by the European Union (EU) on biodiesel products from Indonesia.
The Ministry of Trade?s Director for Trade Protection, Pradnyawati said in a statement on Sunday that the complaint is expected to be filed during a WTO meeting Geneva on March 29-30.
She expected Indonesia to win the case following the success of Argentina in filing a similar complaint.
The ministry said that since the EU applied the anti-dumping duty of 8.8-23.3 percent (76.94-178.85 euros per ton) the value of Indonesia?s biodiesel export to Europe has dropped by 73.4 percent from US$635 million in 2013 to $9 million last year.
The ministry said that the anti-dumping duty was unfair and inconsistent with the Anti-Dumping Agreement of the WTO. The ministry added that the Indonesian government is convinced that EU has applied wrong methodology and there was miscalculation of the normal value and profit margin that has caused Indonesian biodiesel producers to be subject to high anti-dumping duty.
?The European Union is a good market for Indonesian biodiesel products. With this complaint, we hope there will be a reduction in the dumping margins, so that our biodiesel export can increase again,? said Director General of Trade at the ministry Oke Nurwan.
