RI, US sign MoU on energy cooperation

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said signed on Monday in Washington an MoU on energy cooperation between the Indonesian and US governments.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement that the energy cooperation covers a number of areas including research on carbon capture storage, research on strategic petroleum reserves, development and use of new and renewable energy particularly in remote regions, energy efficiency initiatives, and the development new energy center.

Activities planned under the cooperation include transfer of technology, exchange of knowledge and information, capacity building via training and education, and exchange of experts to participate in joint projects.

The ministry said the signing of the MoU is part of the minister?s programs while accompanying President Joko Widodo in his maiden US visit.

The ministry said that Sudirman also attended a roundtable discussion with General Electric, ConocoPhillips, and Freeport McMoran, aimed at obtaining the companies? investment plans in Indonesia.
