PT Exspan Nusantara, a local oil company based in Riau, has been charged by the provincial administration with not paying local taxes, Riau Pos reported on Saturday.
The local revenue office said that the company did not pay the local taxes imposed on power generating and underground water utilization.
The daily did not report the amount of the local taxes avoided by the company but the local official said that the company had never paid the local taxes since the starts of the company's operation in the province.
The local administration said that it would report the company to the local legislative council for further investigation.
The company's executives, however, refused to comment when the newspaper tried to confirm the allegation. He just asked the daily's reporter to direct the question to the company's office in Jakarta. (*)
