Riau?s provincial oil and gas company PT Riau Petroleum has failed to obtain the rights to manage Lirik oil block due to strong opposition from Indragiri Hulu and Pelalawan regencies, the Neraca newspaper reported in its Saturday edition.
Lirik block was earlier operated by PT Lirik Petroleum. Riau Petroleum was established by the provincial administration.
The two regency administrations wanted that their own companies must operate the Lirik block, Riau Petroleum director T. Amir Sulaiman said.
?Actually, Riau Petroleum has already got the green light from Pertamina to operate Lirik block but the regencies didn?t agree.? Amir said in Pekanbaru on Friday.
Lirik block, which is now being operated by the state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, produces 800 barrels of oil per day. (*)
