Riau's mining exports drop in value

The exports of mining products from Riau province had significantly risen in terms of volume but had dropped in terms of value in twelve months until October last year, Riau Post reported.

Data from the province's industry and trade office said the province exported 4.5 million tons of mining products in one year until October 1999, up from 18,479 tons per in the same period of the previous year.

However, the exports of mining products in one year until October last year were valued only US$5.3 million, as against $40.8 million in the same period of the previous year.

The paper does not provide details on the mining products as well as the reason behind the sharp drop in the exports value. (*)
