At least 100 young men grouped in the Riau Malay Youth Front (BMMR) staged on Wednesday a protest in front of the office of Caltex Pacific Indonesia in Dumai, Riau to protest the auction of the company?s steel scraps, Riau Post daily reported on Friday.

Amir Haji Atan, the chairman of the organization, said that they had to mobilize its members and rally in front of the Caltex office to protest the unfair decision of the ministry of energy and mineral resources on the auction of the company?s steel scraps.

The organization also charged the ministry with lying to the public. On Jan 20, the auction committee told the organization that the tender was still open for new bidders. But when the organization was preparing to file its bid, the ministry sent a letter to the committee saying that the tender had been closed. The ministry had even selected the winner of the tender.

The inconsistency related to the auction of the steel scraps angered the organization, which planned to join the tender in its efforts to collect additional funds for the development of a market in Dumai.

Amir said that the organization would continue to fight over the scrap.(*)
