Ridlatama Energi, Gulf Petroleum to build power plant in Riau

Local firm PT Ridlatama Energi Group would cooperate with a consortium of Qatari and Bahrain companies, Gulf Petroleum Ltd. to build a 2x300 megawatts (MW) coal fired power plant in Indragiri Hulu, Riau province, Antara news agency reported.

 

Gulf Petroleum will invest US$6 million in the project, Abdul Aziz Addulaimi, the director of Gulf Petroleum Ltd., said after meeting Vice President Jusuf Kalla in Jakarta Thursday.

 

Meanwhile, PT Ridlatama Energi Group President Director Anang Widjiantoro said work on the construction of the power plant was expected to start late July 2007.

 

"Hopefully, the power plant will be operational starting 2011," he said.

 

According to Anang, Ridlatama Energi Group operates 11 coal fields in Indragiri Hulu.

 

The consortium is also looking into the possibility of investing in a power plant with a capacity of 2x150 Megawatts in East Kutai, East Kalimantan.(*)
