RIMS Energy strikes the second oil offshore E. Java

RIMS Energy Karapan Limited has made its second oil discovery on its Karapan production sharing contract (PSC) in the North Madura offshore East Java with the Nummulites-1 well, according to IHS Energy report.

Drilled by Transocean's semisubmersible Sedco 600, to a total depth of 7,300 ft, the Nummulites-1 wildcat has now been plugged and abandoned as a discovery well. The well is located approximately 15 km northeast of the first discovery well, the Turitella-1, which was abandoned without being tested after striking gas.

Meanwhile, another RIMS?s drilling program on Belemnite-1 had reached 3,340 ft. The well is scheduled to be drilled with a total depth of 5,935 ft.

RIMS operate Karapan Block in a 50:50 percent joint venture with Malaysia's state-owned Petronas Carigali.

The joint venture planned to commercialize the Block before 2004. (robert)
