Rio Tinto Foundation launches a series of 10 books on farmers training

The Rio Tinto Foundation has launched a series of 10 books on farmers training. The launching was marked by the handover of the books from the foundation's program coordinator Kavin Samuel to Kutai Barat regent Ir. Rama Alexander Asia in Sendawar on Tuesday.

"This series of books is the second edition that serves as an improvement from the first edition that was written after the Rio Tinto Foundation gave training to more than 1,500 farmers in Kutai Barat," Kalvin Samuel said.

The foundation had been giving training to more than 1,500 farmers in 42 villages in Long Iram and Barong Tongkok subdistricts. In the future, Kalvin Samuel said, the foundation would expand the training to cover more villages in other subdistricts.

When receiving the books, regent Alexander Asia said: "The Kutai Barat administration appreciates efforts that have been taken by the Rio Tinto Foundation, especially in giving training to farmers in Kutai Barat."

Besides farming, the Rio Tinto Foundation also has a number of other programs, including those on health, education, and culture.

In the health sector, the foundation It has also launched an anti-tuberculosis drive in 10 subdistricts in Kutai Barat.

In education, the foundation has trained 346 elementary school teachers from 127 schools. Besides, the foundation, in cooperation with the Mulawarman University and PT Kelian Equatorial Mining, has opened a mining diploma III program.

In the cultural sector, the Rio Tinto Foundation has been actively involved in the efforts to increase people's appreciation on Dayak culture, by publishing two books on the matter. (*)
