Anglo-Australian miner Rio Tinto Plc. On Tuesday said that gold production from its Kelian mining in East Kalimantan during the first quarter of 2002 was 105,000 ounces, lower last year?s first quarter production of 114,000 ounces.
The company said mill throughput in the first quarter of 2002 was lower than in the previous quarter as a crack in the ball mill shell required a seven day maintenance shutdown.
Rio Tinto holds 90 percent stake in PT Kelian Equatorial Mining, the operator of Kelian gold mine. Kelian mine is scheduled to be closed in 2004 due to reserve depletion. (alex)
