PT RMK Energy Tbk (IDX: RMKE), a South Sumatra-based coal logistics and trading company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with coal miner PT Pendopo Energi Batubara (PEB), a subsidiary of PT Bumi Resources Tbk (IDX: BUMI), to develop mining infrastructure and coal logistics facilities in South Sumatra.

The agreement was signed in Jakarta on Wednesday by RMKE President Director Vincent Saputra and PEB President Director Maringan M. Ido Hotna Hutabarat.

Under the agreement, RMKE plans to build logistics infrastructure linking PEB’s mining operations in Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI) Regency with RMKE’s integrated coal logistics network, which includes hauling roads, loading stations, railway transport and port facilities.

The project will involve the construction of access roads and a loading station near the PEB mining area. The infrastructure will be owned by RMKE, while PEB will be granted access to use the facilities to support its mining operations.

PEB will also allocate part of its coal production to RMKE under a coal sales and purchase arrangement, with volumes to be determined in a future definitive agreement.

Coal transported through the facilities is expected to be delivered via rail in cooperation with state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), linking the mine area to RMKE’s port facilities.

As part of the arrangement, PEB has agreed to use RMKE’s port services for coal shipments as long as it utilizes the infrastructure built by RMKE.

Vincent Saputra said the cooperation represents a strategic step for RMKE to expand its coal logistics network in South Sumatra.

He said PEB is one of five new clients expected to be connected to RMKE’s logistics facilities, which will help support the company’s coal transportation target of 12.7 million tonnes and coal sales target of 3.6 million tonnes.

PEB President Director Maringan Hutabarat said the partnership would help ensure smooth coal distribution by providing reliable logistics infrastructure to support the company’s mining operations.
