State-owned PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI), which is engaged in plantation, pharmacy and distribution businesses, is currently in talks with an oil and gas firm and a Japanese automotive company over the possibility of setting up a bioethanol plant in Majalengka, West Java, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Saturday.

The paper quoted RNI President Director Didik Prasetyo as saying that investment for the planned project is estimated at around Rp 200 billion, and if the parties agreed to realize it, construction should start in 2017 in the hope for completion in 2019.

The planned bioethanol plant will be located on a 12,000-ha site where RNI will build a sugar factory, power plant, and automotive brake pad manufacturing facilities.

Didik said that the bioethanol plant will use sugarcane waste materials as feedstock. (*)
