The road blockade initiated by around 800 workers on Wednesday leading to PT Freeport Indonesia?s Grasberg mine area in Papua has ended, according to Director General of Mineral and Coal R. Sukhyar.

Sukhyar was quoted by Kompas.com as saying Friday that the reopening of the access road has allowed maintenance work to resume, but quickly added that mining activities were still suspended pending the completion of investigation into the recent deadly road accident at the Grasberg open pit mine area which killed four workers.

The road blockade was launched by the angry Freeport Indonesia workers in protest of the fatal road accident.

?The road has been reopened, but the mining (operation) not yet,? Sukhyar said. (*)
