Roadmap planned for ?green? coal-fired power plant

The Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, in cooperation with the World Coal Association (WCA) and other international experts started on Tuesday drafting roadmap for the country to develop environmentally friend coal-fired power plants, Investor Daily reported on Wednesday,

The paper said that the roadmap would help Indonesia meets its international commitment regarding environmental issues, while also increasing electricity supply by burning its massive amount of coal to meet power demand.

WCA Chief Executive, Benjamin Sporton was quoted by the paper as saying that Indonesia is the world?s fourth largest coal producer. Through the road map, he added, that Indonesia can apply so-called high efficiency and low emission (HELE) technology in its coal-fired power plants to reduce negative environmental impact. (*)
