Crude oil production at the Rokan Block in Riau has fallen to around 50,000–60,000 barrels of oil per day following a disruption in gas supply caused by a leak in the Grissik–Duri (GD) gas pipeline, according to Indonesia’s upstream regulator SKK Migas.
Deputy for Exploitation at SKK Migas, Taufan Marhaendrajana, said the interruption partially affected operations at the Rokan Block, which is operated by Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR), one of Indonesia’s largest crude producers.
“Rokan is partially impacted, with production at around 50–60 mbopd,” Taufan told Petromindo on Monday.
Sources said that production loss was around 90,000 bpd, mostly heavy oil.
The gas supply disruption followed a leak at KP 222 of the GD pipeline in Batu Ampar Village, Kemuning District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau, on Friday, Jan. 2, at around 16:35 WIB. Gas transported through the GD pipeline is used to support PHR’s operations, including power generation for oil wells and facilities, as well as steam generation at the Duri Field.

To mitigate the impact on oil production, SKK Migas has diverted part of the gas supply from EMP Bentu to the Rokan Block. Taufan confirmed that the additional gas allocation was sourced from EMP Bentu.
PHR previously said it is coordinating with pipeline operator PT Transportasi Gas Indonesia (TGI) to monitor repair progress and has implemented operational adjustments to limit production losses. The company stated that its activities continue to operate following these adjustments.
The pipeline leak triggered an explosion and fire in Indragiri Hilir, injuring several people and damaging nearby vehicles and buildings, according to local authorities. The GD pipeline, owned and operated by TGI, supplies gas to multiple industrial users, including upstream oil and gas operations in Riau.
